The birds are back…

August 20, 2010

…well, some new ones anyway. Six new birds captured, ringed and released this morning by the Station. That’s 59 in total now, which is already higher than I thought was likely and we have 4 weeks left!

The feeders are proving very popular with buntings, of both the snow and Lapland variety! I’m happy to let them make the most of their free meal as we have a vast supply of dried mealworms, and they don’t hoover them up like the Fair Isle starlings.

A group from a Danish foundation has been and gone, gracing us with their presence for 1 night only. They’re on a whistle-stop tour of Greenland with the aim of funding some initiatives that address some of the country’s endemic social problems.
